“Painting is my way to find my “happy place” and color is a way to express and celebrate the colors of my soul.” ~Elspeth McLean.
Australian Elspeth McLean is an award winning artist whose innate love for color and detail evolved into a unique style of painting she describes as “Dotillism”. She creates her intensely colorful and intricate artworks entirely out of dots created with acrylic paint and a paintbrush. She’s an diploma holder in Transpersonal Art Therapy. Her refined technique has grown and expanded into the vibrant, precise and soul engaging artworks. For Elspeth, painting dots is a meditative and grounding experience which is so enjoyable she has dedicated her life to it. Through her art she hopes to connect people with their inner child and to bring some vibrancy and joy to their lives.
Many ask why her art is referred as DOTILLISIM : Its because of the use of vibrant colorful dots abstract. Although from Australia her artwork does not fall under the category of Pointillism(an art movement where paintings also all made up of dots). In Pointillism the paint is applied to canvas in a way that the viewer eye mixes the color. It may all look common because of the fact that both use dots in different ways. Elspeth McLean uses them as a decorative patterning and filling in instead of using brush strokes.
